Disable a line before considering deletion
Turning a line off leaves its profile installed and lets you switch it on again when appropriate. Deleting removes the profile from the phone and can create a recovery problem. Neither action should be assumed to cancel a subscription, refund a purchase or pause an active allowance. If you simply want to stop using travel data after the trip, choose your normal data line and disable the travel line first. Review the seller’s retention instructions, particularly when the profile can carry packages for later journeys.
Reinstallation depends on the provider and purchase
Do not treat a QR code as either universally reusable or universally single-use. Traditional Airalo profiles have restrictions and a recovery check in the account; the new Airalo flow supports a different same-device setup process. Holafly’s help also describes same-phone reinstallation under specified conditions, while its newer purchases can use reusable profiles. These are provider instructions, not a promise that any deleted eSIM can be restored. Before deleting an active profile, ask whether your particular order can be recovered and which installation method support wants you to use.
Reuse and transfer are different permissions
A reusable eSIM may accept another package on the same phone. Transfer means moving service to a different device, which can require an entirely different provider process or a replacement purchase. Apple offers transfer methods where the carrier supports them; that does not establish that an independently purchased travel plan allows transfer. Check both the phone’s capability and the seller’s terms before replacing, trading in or resetting your device. Keep the original phone and profile available until the provider confirms the supported route for your package.
If you already deleted the profile
Connect to reliable Wi-Fi, sign into the account used for purchase and inspect the installed-device or recovery options. Follow the official recovery flow for that purchase rather than scanning the code on several devices. Keep the order reference and original instructions available, but treat activation codes and QR images as private. If the account says recovery is unavailable, contact support before buying again so you understand whether replacement or another remedy is available. A profile disappearing from phone settings does not show what has happened to the remaining package in the provider account.
Before a reset, phone upgrade or trip end
Check whether the phone’s reset process will retain or erase eSIMs and whether you can access the provider account afterward. Save support contact details and ensure you have another internet connection for setup. For an upgrade, resolve transfer eligibility before wiping or surrendering the old phone. At the end of a trip, check whether the eSIM should stay installed for reuse and whether any recurring plan needs a separate cancellation. Only remove a profile once you understand its future use, recovery options and the provider’s account-side requirements.
