How to install a travel eSIM

Prepare your phone, follow the supplied setup method and check activation timing.

What to check

Prepare before starting

Keep a working internet connection available and open the installation instructions supplied with your order. Check that the plan is intended for your device and destination. Save the order reference and support details somewhere you can access later. Before installing, read the activation policy: installation and the start of the paid validity period are not always the same event. Follow the package’s rule when deciding how early to begin.

Use the installation method provided

The provider may supply a QR code, a supported app flow, a link or manual details. Use its instructions alongside the manufacturer’s setup guide. Apple documents QR, link, app and manual options; Pixel setup begins through the phone’s SIM settings. Menu wording may vary by device and software version. If the method fails, keep the error message and ask support before repeating unrelated changes.

Label and select the right line

Give the installed plan a recognisable label, such as Travel Japan, to make the settings easier to inspect. Check which line is selected for mobile data and follow the provider’s instructions about data roaming on that travel line. Review the home line separately with your carrier’s charging rules in mind. Do not assume that installing a second profile automatically sets every call, text and data preference as intended.

Test carefully on arrival

When you reach a covered destination, follow the provider’s connection steps and try a small task, such as opening a webpage. If it does not work, check the chosen data line, coverage area and supplied setup instructions before contacting support. Keep screenshots of the relevant error and order reference. Avoid deleting the eSIM as a first troubleshooting step; ask the provider whether your profile can be installed again.
